Expanded Summary

David Arnold and Andrew Sloan-two high school losers who’ve had no luck in life and even worse luck with women. With prom only a week away and absolutely no dates or prospects David and Andrew begin to panic. They are tired of being ridiculed and taunted by everyone in school- never getting the girl, having their lunch money stolen, being pushed and knocked over in the hallways - just once they want to be the cool guys with the hot dates and they want to do it for the most important event of the year, The Prom.

Figuring that the only way to score hot babes is to abolish their long held loser-reputations, David and Andrew set out to become all the rage. However, the only way to become popular at their school is to be friends with the jocks and of course the jocks want nothing at all to do with David and Andrew. To add insult to injury, Jeff, the “jock-leader” is throwing an “in-crowd” party and has made it crystal clear that David and Andrew are not invited, but the boy’s don’t let that stop them.

On the night of Jeff’s party, Andrew goes to pick David up at his part-time bakery job and finds him preoccupied with a girlie magazine in a corner, a typical scenario. On his way in, Andrew notices two sketchy looking characters leaving the store and becomes concerned, especially given David’s preoccupied state. After making sure the safe in the back of the shop was untouched the boys turn their energies back to crashing the party. What a mistake!

The boy’s fatal attempt to enter the party apparently wasn’t humiliating enough for David. Determined to see the object of his desire, Liz, whom also happens to be Jeff’s girlfriend, David convinces Andrew to give it one more shot and they attempt to sneak into the party through the back door. But Jeff catches them and showing no mercy punches Andrew in the stomach. The boys decide to call it a night and drive home in silence, feeling depressed and rejected as usual. Just as Andrew is about to get out of the car, David notices a bag in the back seat. Inside they find more cash than either of them have ever seen in their lives. After briefly entertaining the idea that the money could be stolen they decide to keep it, thinking it is the answer to their prayers.

The next day at school the boy’s have arrived! Their slick new car, designer suits and bodyguard (to protect them from the bullies) get everyone’s attention. Who says money can’t buy happiness; all of a sudden the hot girls want them and the jocks want to be them. Jeff even invites the boy’s to his party that night.

David and Andrew are living it up as the new school studs! They go on a beer run for the party figuring that no store-clerk is going to turn down an I.D. wrapped in a hundred dollar bill. Life is great! But not for long. Their luck runs out in a flash when they overhear a news bulletin stating that the bakery has been robbed, and the chief suspect is David Arnold.

The two go to David’s house only to find that it has been broken into and completely trashed. They’re too terrified to tell their parents or the police so they come up with a plan to catch the thieves by setting them up at school. The next day everything seems to be going according to plan; a couple of Mafia guys come to the school to pick up the money and David tips off the cops. But suddenly their plan turns disastrous when the cops that show up on the scene turn out to be in cahoots with the Mafia. Now the Mafia wants the rest of their money, and the police still want David. The boys have to develop a new plan to catch the thieves and clear their names…one that will work this time! And all they ever wanted was to go to the prom!
